Removal of Waste and Pollution

Our brand, AOIFE®, works in harmony with the environment by regenerating it and supporting communities through environmentally responsible choices. Since 2017, we have partnered with organisations like Healthy Seas and European Ghost Diving groups to address the issue of ghost fishing and clean the oceans of waste, one fishing net at a time.

The narrative of our brand spans continents, entailing the dedicated AOIFE® team in Ireland and our collaboration with 950 fishers and fish farmers. Together with Healthy Seas in Italy, ghost diving groups scattered across Europe, and the involvement of 381 children in educational programs, we have helped our team gather an astounding 75,000kg of fishing nets, at times in challenging sea conditions, with the aid of over 200 volunteers. To date, our team has repurposed a staggering 585 tons of fishing nets, equivalent to the weight of 5 blue whales, in response to the urgent global issue of abandoned fishing gear in our oceans. Failure to collect this waste harms millions of marine animals and affects 3 billion people who rely on ocean fish for protein.

With less than 3% of the world's water being fresh and human pollution outpacing nature's ability to clean it, our efforts aim to reduce energy use, lower greenhouse gas emissions, conserve resources, minimize water consumption, and improve air quality. Our comprehensive approach considers environmental impact at every production phase for a sustainable outcome.

At AOIFE®, we are dedicated to providing sustainable and scalable solutions. We recycle materials, help to purify water, and promote a circular economy aligned with the UN's sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Reforestation

We plant trees annually to combat deforestation, which affects 1.6 billion people and over 80% of terrestrial species. Land degradation threatens the well-being of 3.2 billion people and drives species to extinction, intensifying climate change. This urgent issue is our priority, as forests provide crucial resources, with over 80% of the human diet coming from plants. Our efforts focus on improving these habitats to address deforestation and land degradation.

Educational Initiatives - Community involvement

We have proudly supported the Healthy Seas educational program for children aged 6-18. We've introduced it in the Republic of Ireland. The program includes informative presentations on marine topics, fun games, arts & crafts, virtual reality, and guest speakers. Our goal is to raise awareness, bridge the gap, and educate about sustainability and circularity.

Our Mantra

"To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - that is to have succeeded."

Ralph Waldo Emerson
